Over the last two weeks, fans have voted in the 2023-24 NCHC Play of the Year Tournament, and for the second time in NCHC history, the winning play comes from Western Michigan (Justin Kovacs in 2015). WMU senior goaltender Cameron Rowe's save in Week 17, the tournament's No. 9 seed, was selected the 2023-24 NCHC Play of the Year by fans. This marks only the third time in 11 seasons/tournaments that a save has been chosen Play of the Year, but all in the last four years (2021, 2022).
In this season's NCHC Play of the Year, Rowe robs Omaha by sprawling across his net to make a blocker save in the top corner and covers the rebound on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 in front of the home crowd at Lawson Ice Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Rowe won the final match-up in the Play of the Year Tournament over North Dakota's Cameron Berg and Jackson Blake (the tournament's No. 2 seed), earning 64 percent of the vote to Berg/Blake's 36. The championship match-up saw more than 1,200 votes cast with Rowe receiving 817 votes to Berg/Blake's 469.
