Over the last two weeks, fans have voted in the 2021 NCHC Play of the Year Tournament, presented by Krampade, and for the fifth time in conference history and second straight season, North Dakota is home to the winning play. UND's junior goaltender Adam Scheel's save from week 8, the tournament's 12 seed, was revealed as the 2020-21 NCHC Play of the Year, as selected by fans. This is the first time in tournament history that a save has been selected as the Play of the Year.
In the NCHC Play of the Year, Scheel slides across a wide open cage and robs Omaha of a goal by getting his blocker on the puck Friday, Jan. 29 in a nationally televised CBS Sports Network game.
Scheel won the championship match-up against his teammate Shane Pinto, earning a very narrow victory with 52 percent of the vote. Previous winners for UND are Drake Caggiula (2014), Nick Schmaltz (2016), Tyson Jost (2017), and Jordan Kawaguchi (2020). Western Michigan's Justin Kovacs claimed the 2015 title, while St. Cloud State won Play of the Year in 2018 (Ryan Poehling) and 2019 (Sam Hentges).
