AUSTIN, Texas – For their outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the ice, three National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) student-athletes have been named 2024-25 Academic All-Americans, as the College Sports Communicators (CSC)
announced the 2024-25 Academic All-America Men’s At-Large Team on Wednesday. The three Academic All-Americans from the NCHC are the most ever in one season for the conference.
Denver senior goaltender
Matt Davis was selected to the Academic All-America Second Team, while DU senior forward
Jack Devine and Western Michigan graduate student forward
Tim Washe were tabbed to the Third Team Academic All-America squad.
A total of only 45 student-athletes from across 10 NCAA sports were named to this year’s Academic All-America Men’s At-Large Team, with 15 honorees each selected to one of three teams by CSC members. The trio of NCHC student-athletes honored are among only seven NCAA men’s ice hockey players selected Academic All-Americans, with Davis the lone one on the Second Team.
The Men’s Academic All-America At-Large Team consists of student-athletes from the NCAA Division I men’s sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
Davis (Calgary, Alberta) completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Denver in June with a 3.96 grade-point average while majoring in finance. He was named the NCHC’s Senior Scholar-Athlete Award winner in 2025 and is a four-time NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and a four-time NCHC Academic All-Conference Team member. Davis also recently was named an
All-American Scholar by the AHCA for the third time in his career.
On the ice, Davis was named a Mike Richter Award semifinalist this past season, finishing the year with a 29-10-1 record to lead all NCAA goalies in wins. He posted a .924 save percentage and a 2.07 goals-against average in 2024-25, both of which ranked in the top 15 nationally. The two-time national champion and 2024 Frozen Four Most Outstanding Player completes his Pioneers career ranking in Denver’s top five all-time for career wins (63) and goals-against average (2.13), and in the top 10 for career save percentage (.921).
Devine (Glencoe, Ill.) earned his bachelor’s degree from Denver in June as well, finishing with a 3.72 GPA while also majoring in finance. He is a two-time AHCA First-Team All-American on the ice, as well, including this past 2024-25 season. Devine also garnered First-Team All-NCHC accolades the last two seasons. He led the NCAA in points (57) and assists (44) during the 2024-25 season and was a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award for the second year in a row. Devine finished his college career with 163 career points (57g/106a) in 162 games, the most points in NCHC history.
In the classroom, Devine is a four-time NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete, four-time member of the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team and garnered All-American Scholars honors from the AHCA as a senior this year.
Devine was a seventh-round draft pick by the Florida Panthers in 2022 and signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the club in April. He played in 10 games with the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL to end the 2024-25 season, tallying seven points.
Washe (Clarkston, Mich.), who completed his bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan in the spring of 2024, started his master’s degree this past academic year, compiling a 3.75 GPA in business administration. He is a three-time NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and four-time NCHC Academic All-Conference Team member in his career, while garnering AHCA All-American Scholars honors in 2024-25 as well.
On the ice, Washe captained Western Michigan to its first NCAA National Championship in program history in 2025, while also leading the Broncos to their first Penrose Cup as NCHC regular-season champions and first NCHC Frozen Faceoff title. He was named NCHC Defensive Forward of the Year this past season, leading the NCAA with a 63.1 faceoff win percentage. Washe compiled 38 points on 16 goals and 22 assists in 42 games during WMU’s historic 2024-25 season.
Washe finished his career with 74 points (28g/46a) in 171 games, the most games played ever by a Bronco. An undrafted free agent, he signed an entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks following the season and played in two games to end the NHL campaign, including his debut at Minnesota on April 15, 2025.
To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Student-athletes must have participated in at least 90 percent of their team’s games this season or started 66 percent of the games. They also had to be named to the Academic All-District Team in June. CSC, previously known as CoSIDA, serves as the voting body for all Academic All-America Teams.
Davis, Devine and Washe were among
23 NCHC student-athletes to earn CSC Academic All-District honors in June. The NCHC is now home to 12 Academic All-Americans in its 12-year history.
