WINDSOR, Ontario – The National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) is well represented at the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase, as seven NCHC players were selected to Team Canada’s roster. Hockey Canada revealed the 32 players invited to take part in the seven-day showcase on Friday.
 
Along with the seven NCHC players representing Canada, five incoming NCHC freshmen are suiting up for Team USA at the World Junior Summer Showcase, as the U.S. roster was announced on June 30.
 
Among the septet of NCHC players on Team Canada, two are rising sophomores in North Dakota forward Cole Reschny and UND defenseman Keaton Verhoeff, while the other five are incoming freshmen. Four NCHC teams are represented on the Canadian roster, led by a trio from North Dakota, with freshman defenseman Carson Carels also donning the Maple Leaf at the Summer Showcase. Denver incoming freshman defensemen Ryan Lin and Daxon Rudolph are suiting up for Team Canada, as well, along with Omaha incoming freshman goaltender William Lacelle and Western Michigan incoming freshman forward Tommy Lafrenière.
 
The 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase, which serves as an evaluation for 2027 World Junior Championship rosters, began on Sunday and runs through Saturday, Aug. 1 at WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario. Canada held its first practice on Monday and will face Sweden (Wednesday, July 29), Finland (July 30) and Team USA (Aug. 1) in exhibition games throughout the week. The 32-man roster for Canada includes 18 forwards, 10 blueliners and four goaltenders. Among the seven NCHC players on Team Canada, four are defensemen, two are forwards and one is a goaltender. The North Dakota trio of Carels, Reschny and Verhoeff all won a bronze medal with Team Canada at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship after being on last year’s Canadian National Junior Team.
 
Reschny (Macklin, Sask.) is the reigning NCHC Rookie of the Year and was named to the NCHC All-Rookie Team in 2025-26. The Calgary Flames first round draft pick led NCHC rookies with 35 points in 36 games last season, while his 29 assists were also first among freshmen and sixth among all NCHC players. Reschny was a three-time NCHC Player of the Week in 2025-26, as well.
 
Verhoeff (Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta) also garnered NCHC All-Rookie Team honors this past year, leading rookie defensemen with both 20 points and 14 assists in 36 games. The San Jose Sharks 2026 first round draft pick scored six goals, blocked 43 shots and posted a +7 plus/minus, as well, and was named NCHC Defenseman of the Week in January.
 
Carels (Cypress River, Manitoba) was drafted sixth overall by the Calgary Flames in the 2026 NHL Draft in June. This past season, the left-shot defenseman piled up 73 points (20g/53a) in 58 Western Hockey League (WHL) regular-season games with the Prince George Cougars, while serving as an assistant captain. Carels added 10 points in the 2026 WHL Playoffs and earned First-Team All-WHL honors.
 
Lacelle (Gatineau, Quebec) split time last season between Rimouski and Blainville-Boisbriand in the QMJHL, playing in a combined 45 games. He compiled a 27-15-2 record in 2025-26, including going 13-7-1 with a 2.11 GAA, a .915 save percentage and five shutouts with Blainville-Boisbriand to close the campaign. Lacelle also went 10-5-0 in 15 QMJHL playoff games with the Armada while posting a .909 save percentage.
 
Lafrenière (St-Sauveur, Quebec) played for the Kamloops Blazers this past season, racking up 77 points on 41 goals and 36 assists in 67 games. He added two goals and one assist during the WHL playoffs. Following his season in juniors, the Edmonton Oilers draft pick played five games with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors, tallying a goal and an assist.
 
Like Verhoeff, Lin (Richmond, B.C.) was selected in the first round of the 2026 NHL Draft by the San Jose Sharks. In his second season with the Vancouver Giants, the right-shot defenseman posted 57 points (14g/43a) in 53 WHL games while serving as an assistant captain. Lin was tabbed Second-Team All-WHL this past season.
 
Rudolph (Lacombe, Alberta) became the highest-drafted NCHC player ever when he went fourth overall to the Buffalo Sabres in the 2026 NHL Draft in June. The right-shot blueliner led the Prince Albert Raiders with 78 points in 68 games this past WHL season, including 28 goals and 50 assists. In the WHL Playoffs, Rudolph added 27 points (9g/18a) in 19 games and was named to the All-WHL First Team.
 
The 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship will take place from Dec. 26, 2026 through Jan. 5, 2027 in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta. The final Canadian National Junior Team roster will be announced closer to the tournament in December.
