COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Combining success on the ice and in the classroom over the course of his career, Denver senior defenseman
Kent Anderson has been selected the winner of the 2025-26 NCHC Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) announced Tuesday.
Anderson is the second straight Pioneer to earn the honor, after goaltender Matt Davis captured the Senior Scholar-Athlete Award in 2024-25, and the third overall (Gabe Levin, 2015-16).

Anderson has built a distinguished academic and athletic career at Denver. The Calgary, Alberta native boasts a 3.94 grade-point average while majoring in finance and minoring in kinesiology and sport studies.
Anderson is a four-time NCHC Honor Roll (previously Academic All-Conference) member and a four-time NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete. He was named a 2024 CSC Academic All-American (Second Team) as a sophomore and has twice been tabbed CSC Academic All-District, while earning the 2024 NCAA Elite 90 Award at the Frozen Four. Anderson is also a three-time AHCA All-American Scholar and has made the Dean’s List in 11 of 11 quarters at the University of Denver.
On the ice, Anderson has played in all 38 games this season on the Pioneers blue line, tallying three points (1g/2a) and only 12 penalty minutes with a +8 plus/minus. The team captain has led Denver to the 2026 NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship game, which will be hosted on home ice for the first time this Saturday.
In four seasons with the Pioneers, Anderson has played in 145 career games and has compiled 21 points (5g/16a). As a sophomore, the defenseman helped DU win the 2024 National Championship, an NCAA-record 10th in program history.
In the community, Anderson has participated in fundraisers for Dawg Nation while also serving as a volunteer youth hockey coach.
To earn the NCHC Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, a student-athlete must be a fourth-year undergraduate senior with at least a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average and have made contributions on and off the ice during their career, including academic and athletic achievements, as well as community service and campus involvement.
Minnesota Duluth senior defenseman Riley Bodnarchuk was the runner-up for the 2026 NCHC Senior Scholar-Athlete Award this year. The Senior Scholar-Athlete Award is voted on and selected by the nine member schools’ Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs) from submitted nominations. Voting was completed following the regular season and prior to the start of the postseason.
Later today (Tuesday), the NCHC Rookie of the Year will be announced, while Wednesday will feature the NCHC Herb Brooks Coach of the Year. The final NCHC individual award for 2025-26 will be handed out on Thursday, which will go to the Conference’s Player of the Year.
