FORWARD OF THE WEEK
Cole Reschny, North Dakota
Freshman Forward
Macklin, Sask.
Reschny posted the best weekend of his career so far, powering No. 6 North Dakota to a sweep at Omaha. The Calgary Flames first round draft pick led the NCHC with five points on the weekend, recording multiple points both nights for his second and third career multi-point games. In Friday’s opener, Reschny dished out a pair of assists on power play goals to book-end a 7-2 victory. The next night in a 4-1 win, he tallied a career-high three points, scoring the game-winning goal midway through the second period while again book-ending the scoring with assists on the first and final goals.
Reschny finished the weekend with a game-winning goal and four assists, with the four helpers tied for first in the NCHC on the weekend (with teammate Jake Livanavage). He also won 54.8 percent of his draws against Omaha, going 17-for-31 in the faceoff circle. Reschny posted a +3 plus/minus in the series and fired five shots on goal. In 10 games this season, Reschny is now tied for second on the team with 10 points on two goals and eight assists.
DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
Eric Pohlkamp, Denver
Junior Defenseman
Baxter, Minn.
Pohlkamp was a key cog in new-No. 4 Denver sweeping then-No. 4 Western Michigan in Kalamazoo last weekend. Offensively, the San Jose Sharks draft pick totaled three points, with a goal each night, while helping limit the Broncos to only four goals in the series. On Friday, he scored an empty-net goal from his own zone to seal a 3-1 victory, while putting five shots on goal. The next night, Pohlkamp scored the eventual game-winning goal in the second period, while setting up DU’s fifth goal in a 6-3 victory.
Pohlkamp ended the series with two goals, one of only two NCHC blueliners with two goals on the weekend, while adding an assist. He tied for the NCHC lead with a +6 plus/minus (with teammate Boston Buckberger) and led NCHC defensemen with seven shots on goal on the weekend. The Preseason All-NCHC selection also blocked three shots, while averaging 23:02 time on ice against WMU. On the season, Pohlkamp is second among NCHC blueliners with 12 points, while his seven goals lead all NCAA defensemen and tie for fourth among all NCHC skaters.
GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Adam Gajan, Minnesota Duluth
Sophomore Goaltender
Poprad, Slovakia
Gajan picked up where he left off in October, collecting his third Goaltender of the Week nod this season, while backstopping the Bulldogs to a pair of wins over rival St. Cloud State. In Friday’s opener, the Chicago Blackhawks draft pick recorded his second shutout of the season and third of his career, stopping all 18 shots he faced in a 4-0 win. The next night, Gajan made a season-high 30 saves in a 3-2 overtime victory, including 10 stops in the third period and overtime.
Gajan finished the series with a 0.98 goals-against average, leading all NCHC goalies on the weekend, and a .960 save percentage, which was tops among NCHC goalies who played two games and second overall. He compiled 48 saves in the series, while allowing only one even strength goal to the Huskies. Gajan improved to 10-2-0 on the season, with the 10 wins tied for first nationally. He improved his season GAA to 1.70, which is second in the NCHC, while upping his save percentage to .925, which is third in the conference.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Quentin Miller, Denver
Freshman Goaltender
Montreal, Quebec
Miller was marvelous for Denver in the Pioneers sweep at then-No. 4 Western Michigan in a match-up of the last two National Champions. The Montreal Canadiens draft pick backstopped DU to two wins, racking up 76 saves, which were the most by any goalie in the NCAA last weekend. On Friday, he made a then-career-high 35 saves in a 3-1 victory, including 15 saves in the opening period. A night later, Miller upped his career high again, stopping 41 of 44 shots in a 6-3 win, with 16 saves coming in the second stanza, his single period season high.
For the series, Miller compiled a .950 save percentage, which was third in the NCHC on the weekend, while posting a 2.00 goals-against average. Of his four goals allowed to WMU, only two came even strength, with the final two coming on the power play late in Saturday’s game.
