NCHC Doles Out December Monthly Honors

North Dakota’s Wiebe, SCSU’s Enright honored, while UND’s Boisvert repeats as Rookie of the Month

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – With 2025 upon us, the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) announced its final monthly honors for 2024 on Thursday. North Dakota captured two NCHC December Players of the Month, while St. Cloud State claimed the other:
  • Player – Abram Wiebe, North Dakota, So., defenseman
  • Goaltender – Gavin Enright, St. Cloud State, 5th
  • Rookie – Sacha Boisvert, North Dakota, forward
These are the first career NCHC monthly honors for both Wiebe and Enright, while Boisvert repeats as NCHC Rookie of the Month after also winning it for November. Enright is the second SCSU netminder to glove NCHC Goaltender of the Month this season, joining Isak Posch, who won it for October. This marks only the second time in NCHC history two different netminders from the same team have won NCHC Goalie of the Month in the same season – the Huskies also did it in 2022-23 with Dominic Basse (October) and Jaxon Castor (March). Meanwhile, Wiebe becomes the first defenseman to win NCHC Player of the Month this season.

All three NCHC monthly honorees – Wiebe, Enright and Boisvert – are now eligible for Hockey Commissioners’ Association (HCA) December National Player, Goaltender and Rookie of the Month, respectively. HCA national monthly honors will be announced in the coming days.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH
49470Abram Wiebe, North Dakota
Sophomore Defenseman
Mission, B.C.

Wiebe was a rock on North Dakota’s blue line in December, leading the Fighting Hawks to a perfect 4-0-0 record last month. Offensively, he chipped in six points to lead all NCHC defensemen during the month and was second among all NCHC skaters in December. The Vegas Golden Knights draft pick was the lone NCHC blueliner with two goals last month, while he also dished out four assists. Wiebe logged three multi-point games in December, while his 1.50 points per game were tops among NCHC players with more than two games played in the month.

Wiebe was twice named NCHC Defenseman of the Week in December, with his first honor coming after a four-point series in a sweep at Miami to start the month on Dec. 6-7. After dishing out two helpers in a comeback win on Dec. 6, he tallied a goal and an assist in the series finale, with his power play goal opening the game’s scoring. The following Saturday on Dec. 14, Wiebe again notched a goal and an assist in a 4-3 overtime win over then-No. 9 St. Cloud State. He scored his second power play goal of the month to tie the game, before doling out an assist on the overtime game-winner to earn his second Defenseman of the Week nod.

Along with his offense, Wiebe blocked seven shots in December, which tied for fifth in the NCHC, and posted a +1 plus/minus. He did not commit a penalty last month and fired 11 shots on goal. He also logged a lot of special teams minutes, with UND going 4-for-15 on the power play (26.7%) in December and the penalty kill finishing 10-for-13 (76.9%).

Wiebe is now tied for second on the team with 14 points (4g/10a) in 19 games this season, with his 14 points tying for fourth among NCHC defensemen.

GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH
49505Gavin Enright, St. Cloud State
Fifth-Year Goaltender
Farmington, Minn.

Enright stepped up big-time for the Huskies in December, filling in for the injured Isak Posch. The Bemidji State transfer started four games for SCSU – his first four starts as a Husky – while going 2-2-0 in net last month. Enright posted a .929 save percentage and a 2.25 goals-against average, while leading the NCHC with 118 saves in December. He ranked third in the conference in both save percentage and GAA last month, while totaling at least 27 saves in each game.

Enright made his SCSU starting debut on Dec. 7 in a 5-2 win over Omaha, compiling 27 saves. The following weekend, he suffered a pair of tough-luck losses at then-No. 16 North Dakota. He made 29 stops in a 2-0 loss on Dec. 13, before turning aside a season-high 34 shots in a 4-3 overtime loss in the series finale. Enright bounced back on Dec. 29, racking up 28 saves in a 2-1 win over St. Thomas.

Enright allowed two goals or less in three of his four December starts, while averaging 29.5 saves per game. The fifth-year senior helped SCSU go 91.7 percent (11-of-12) on the penalty kill while between the pipes last month. He now carries a .929 save percentage and 2.25 GAA on the season.

ROOKIE OF THE MONTH
49346Sacha Boisvert, North Dakota
Freshman Forward
Trois-Rivières, Quebec

Boisvert continued his strong freshman campaign, garnering his second straight Rookie of the Month honor. The Chicago Blackhawks first round draft pick recorded points in all four games in December to help North Dakota go 4-0-0 during the month. He scored two goals and added three assists with his five points tying with teammate Mac Swanson for first among NCHC rookies in December. The five points also tied for third among all NCHC skaters last month. Boisvert was the lone NCHC rookie with two goals in the final month of 2024, while averaging 1.25 points per game.

Boisvert started December with a bang, tallying three points in a sweep at Miami. In the opener on Dec. 6, he had an assist on the first goal before scoring the game-winning goal in the final 30 seconds of regulation to break a 4-4 tie. He then had an assist on the game-winner in the series finale at Miami that broke a 2-2 tie in a 4-2 win. The following weekend against then-No. 9 St. Cloud State, Boisvert handed out the primary assist on the game’s first goal in the series opener on Dec. 13, before scoring a goal to force overtime in the series finale, which UND went on to win, 4-3. He was named NCHC Rookie of the Week following the series with SCSU.

Four of Boisvert’s five points in December either tied the game or gave UND the lead for good. He fired 13 shots on goal during the month and finished with an even plus/minus. On the season, Boisvert leads North Dakota with both eight goals and 17 points in 19 games. His 17 points are fifth nationally among rookies and rank first in the NCHC among freshmen.
