FORWARD OF THE WEEK
49424Artem Shlaine, Arizona State
Graduate Student Forward
Moskva (Moscow), Russia

Shlaine was unstoppable over the weekend, leading Arizona State to a stunning sweep at then-No. 1 Denver. The New Jersey Devils draft pick led all NCHC players with four goals on the weekend, tallying two in each win, including both game-winning goals. On Friday, Shlaine book-ended the scoring, striking only 35 ticks into the game and then breaking a 2-2 tie with 45 seconds remaining in regulation with a wicked snipe to give ASU a 3-2 victory and snap Denver’s 21-game win streak. The next night, the Northern Michigan transfer was up to the task again, giving the Sun Devils a 3-1 lead in the second period and restoring a two-goal lead in the third period to make it 4-2 in an eventual 5-2 victory. Shlaine was named First Star of the Game both nights.

All four of Shlaine’s goals came even strength, as he helped end Denver’s 12-0-0 start to the season. He doubled his career multi-goal games in the series, after entering with only two. Shlaine also went 25-19 in the faceoff circle against Denver for a .568 win percentage. He fired nine shots on goal in the sweep, including five on Friday, and finished +3 in the series, while also blocking two shots. The two upset wins marked Arizona State’s first ever conference sweep and handed the Pioneers their first sweep at home since February of 2020.

Shlaine entered the series with one goal all season (in six games) and now has 5 goals and 6 points on the year in eight games, with the 5 goals third on the team.

DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
49275Jacob Guevin, Omaha
Junior Defenseman
Drummondville, Quebec

Guevin was a force at both ends of the ice in Omaha’s sweep of Miami last weekend. Offensively, he chipped in three assists in the two wins, while helping limit the RedHawks to one goal all series. In Friday’s 3-0 shutout, Guevin handed out the primary assist on the game’s first goal only 3:10 into the game, which served as the game-winner. He also earned an assist on UNO’s second goal, helping set up a short-handed tally. In Saturday’s 8-1 rout, Guevin doled out a helper on a power play tally to make it 3-0 late in the first period.

Guevin finished the weekend with three points to tie for the NCHC defensemen lead -- assists at even strength, short-handed and on the power play. He fired four shots on goal Saturday and finished the series +2. Guevin also spearheaded a penalty kill unit that went a perfect 7-for-7 against Miami. In 12 games this season, he now has 9 points (2g/7a), which is second on the team, while his 7 assists lead the Mavericks.

Sophomore Goaltender
Umea, Sweden

Posch was a rock in net for St. Cloud State all weekend, helping the Huskies pick up four points in a split at then-No. 7 Colorado College. In Friday’s 3-2 victory, he made 25 saves, including nine in each of the final two periods, to earn First Star of the Game. The next night, Posch made a season-high-tying 34 saves and was perfect through regulation, before the Huskies fell, 1-0, in overtime. None of the three goals Posch allowed at CC came 5-on-5, with one on the power play, one with an extra attacker and one in 3-on-3 overtime.

Posch led all NCHC goalies with 59 saves on the weekend, while his .952 save percentage was second among goalies with two games played. The Swede compiled a 1.45 goals-against average in 124 minutes of action against the Tigers. On the season, Posch improved to 9-4-0 in 13 starts with a .938 save percentage and a 1.68 GAA, both of which rank fourth in the NCHC.

Rowe continued his stellar final season at WMU, backstopping the Broncos to a win at Minnesota Duluth in his lone action of the weekend. In Friday’s series opener, he made a season-high 42 saves in a 5-2 victory to earn First Star of the Game. Rowe made 22 of his 42 saves in the third period alone to help the Broncos hold on to the win. He also stopped 11 shots short-handed, with UMD going only 1-for-5 on the power play.

Rowe finished Friday’s game with a .955 save percentage and a 2.03 goals-against average, as the Broncos stretched their unbeaten streak to six games. WMU was outshot, 44-21, in Friday’s victory. Rowe improved to 5-0-0 on the season, including 3-0-0 in NCHC play, while boasting a .938 save percentage and 1.59 GAA, both of which rank in the top 10 nationally.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
49346Sacha Boisvert, North Dakota
Freshman Forward
Trois-Rivières, Quebec

Boisvert played a key role in helping North Dakota sweep Robert Morris over the weekend at The Ralph. He was the lone UND player to record points both nights, including a goal in each game. In Friday’s 4-3 win, the Chicago Blackhawks draft pick tallied two points. Boisvert scored a power play goal in the third period to break a 2-2 tie, before assisting on the game-winning goal in overtime. It was his fourth multi-point game this season. The next night, Boisvert scored the game’s only goal early in the first period and it stood as the game-winner. He was named Second Star of the Game both nights.

Boisvert finished the series with three points on two goals and an assist. He also went 11-for-20 in the faceoff circle for a .550 win percentage, fired eight shots on goal, blocked two shots and posted a +1 plus/minus against the Colonials.
