Mazur had a monster weekend at Miami, leading Denver to a conference-opening sweep. The reigning NCHC Rookie of the Year scored five of DU’s eight goals in the series, including both game-winning goals. On Friday, Mazur recorded the first hat trick of his college career, doing so naturally, scoring the game’s first three goals in a 4-0 victory. The next night, the Detroit Red Wings draft pick added two more tallies, rallying DU to a 4-2 victory. With the Pioneers down, 2-1, in the third period, Mazur scored twice in a row to give Denver the lead for good, with his second goal serving as the game-winner.
Mazur finished the weekend with five goals, including two power play goals and two game-winners. He also fired 11 shots on goal in the sweep and posted a +2 plus/minus. DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
Wyatt Kaiser, Minnesota Duluth
Junior Defenseman

Kaiser played a big role in helping Minnesota Duluth snap a four-game losing streak and sweep then-No. 20 Cornell. He chipped in three points offensively, while helping anchor a penalty kill that was perfect on the weekend. In Friday’s opener, the Chicago Blackhawks draft pick scored the game’s first goal, his first of the season, in an eventual 3-2 victory. It was Kaiser’s first collegiate goal scored at home at AMSOIL Arena. The next night, Kaiser dished out the primary assist on the game’s opening goal, then scored the go-ahead goal unassisted to break a 1-1 tie and spearhead UMD to a 4-2 win.
Kaiser ended the series with two goals, one assist, three shots on goal and two blocked shots. He also posted a +5 plus/minus, including +3 in Saturday’s sweep-clincher. Kaiser played on a penalty kill unit that finished the weekend a perfect 8-for-8 against the Big Red.
