COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After leading their teams to weekend sweeps, the Bauer National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Players of the Week for week 10 (Feb. 8-14, 2021) are North Dakota junior Jasper Weatherby for Forward of the Week, Western Michigan sophomore Ronnie Attard for Defenseman of the Week, WMU freshman Alex Aslanidis for Goaltender of the Week and Omaha forward Brock Bremer for Rookie of the Week.

This is the first career NCHC weekly honor for both Weatherby and Bremer, while Attard and Aslanidis both snagged their second weekly honor of the season. Attard has now won three career NCHC Defenseman of the Week nods and was also a Rookie of the Week last year, while Aslanidis is now a two-time NCHC Goaltender of the Week.

Forward of the Week

Jasper Weatherby, North Dakota
Junior Forward
Ashland, Ore.

Weatherby tallied goals both nights and compiled four points to power North Dakota to a sweep of rival Denver last weekend. In Friday’s series opener, he scored the game’s first goal unassisted late in the first period, which turned out to be the game-winner in a 3-0 victory. The next night, the San Jose Sharks draft pick recorded a career-high three points in a 5-2 victory on two goals and an assist, again scoring the game’s opening tally.

Weatherby finished the weekend with three goals, an assist, nine shots on goal and a +3 plus/minus. With goals both nights, he stretched his goal-scoring streak to four games with five goals in that span. On the season, Weatherby has 12 points on eight goals and four assists.

Defenseman of the Week

Ronnie Attard, Western Michigan
Sophomore Defenseman
White Lake, Mich.

Attard was stellar at both ends of the ice to lead Western Michigan to a sweep of then-No. 4 Minnesota Duluth, racking up three points, while helping limit UMD to one goal all weekend. In Friday’s 4-0 win, the Philadelphia Flyers draft pick helped WMU record its first shutout since Nov. 16, 2018, leading a penalty kill that went 5-for-5 on the night and finishing +2. A night later, Attard tallied a season-high three points on two power play goals and an assist in a 4-1 victory. His goals came only a minute apart early in the second period, with his first goal breaking a scoreless tie and his second goal serving as the game-winner.

Attard finished the series with two goals, an assist, four shots on goal and a +3 plus/minus. He also blocked one shot, while anchoring a penalty kill unit that finished 7-for-7 against the Bulldogs. On the season, Attard ranks third among NCHC blue liners with 17 points, while his six goals lead NCHC defensemen.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK

Alex Aslanidis, Western Michigan
Freshman Goaltender
Moorestown, N.J.

Aslanidis was lights out in WMU's sweep of then-No. 4 Minnesota Duluth, allowing one goal all weekend. On Friday, he made 24 saves to earn his first collegiate shutout. Aslanidis made eight of his 24 saves on the penalty kill, including three during a two-minute 5-on-3 advantage for the Bulldogs. On Saturday, he made 22 more stops in a 4-1 victory to give the Broncos their second straight home sweep. UMD’s goal came with only two minutes remaining in regulation to prevent a second straight whitewash.

Aslanidis finished the weekend 2-0-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average and a .979 save percentage, totaling 46 saves on 47 shots faced. He upped his season save percentage to .882 and lowered his goals-against average to 3.03, while improving to 5-3-1 on the season.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Brock Bremer, Omaha
Freshman Forward
Forest Lake, Minn.

Entering the weekend with two goals and six points all season, Bremer had a record-setting Friday to lead Omaha to a win and sweep of Colorado College. In the series-opening 7-1 win over the Tigers, Bremer tied a school and NCHC record with five points, including his first career hat trick. He scored the Mavericks’ second and third goals of the game on the power play, then capped his hat trick with the game’s final tally. His first goal of the night served as the game-winner, while he put a game-high seven shots on goal. In Saturday’s 3-2 sweep-clinching win, Bremer fired three more shots on goal.

Bremer finished the weekend with three goals, including his first career game-winner, two assists, 10 shots on goal and a +3 plus/minus. He’s the second Maverick to record a five-point game this season (Jason Smallidge on Dec. 3).
