Bauer Players of the Week Archive
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – With the first two weekends of the 2019-20 season in the books, the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) has announced its first Bauer NCHC Players of the Week this season, covering games from Oct. 5 through Oct. 13, with four schools represented. Earning Bauer NCHC Player of the Week honors for weeks one and two are Miami senior Gordie Green and Colorado College redshirt senior Chris Wilkie, who are co-Forwards of the Week, Denver junior blue liner Ian Mitchell for Defenseman of the Week, DU freshman forward Bobby Brink for Rookie of the Week and North Dakota sophomore netminder Adam Scheel for Goaltender of the Week.
The Forward of the Week weekly honor this season replaces the previously awarded Offensive Player of the Week. This is Green’s third career NCHC weekly honor, twice earning Offensive Player of the Week, while this is Wilkie’s first career NCHC weekly award. Mitchell picked up his third career NCHC Defenseman of the Week honor, while Scheel also nabbed his third NCHC weekly award and second Goaltender of the Week nod. This is Brink’s first NCHC award.
CO-FORWARD OF THE WEEK

Gordie Green, Miami

Green started his senior season strong, notching five points through his first three games to tie for the NCHC scoring lead. In Miami’s opener on Sunday, Oct. 6, Green had a hand in all four Miami goals in a 7-4 setback against Bowling Green, scoring two goals and handing out the primary assist on the other two as the RedHawks looked to rally. The team captain was also +2 in the loss and named Second Star of the Game, coming up on a point shy of his career high. In his next outing this past Saturday, Green potted Miami’s second goal in a 6-2 loss to New Hampshire. He put five shots on goal in the series with UNH. So far this year, Green has three goals, two assists, nine shots on goal and a +2 plus/minus.
CO-FORWARD OF THE WEEK

Chris Wilkie, Colorado College
Redshirt Senior Forward
Omaha, Neb.
Wilkie had a monster opening weekend of the regular season, racking up five points in a split against Minnesota this past weekend Oct. 11-12. In the regular-season opener on Friday, the Florida Panthers draft pick single-handedly rallied CC to a 3-2 win over the Golden Gophers. He scored two goals in the third period, tying the game each time with the first on the power play, while he had the primary assist on the game-winning goal in the closing minutes of regulation. It was his first multi-goal game as a Tiger. Wilkie was +2 with five shots on goal in Friday’s win and earned First Star of the Game. The next night in the series finale, Wilkie added two more points, scoring another goal to put CC up 2-0, while assisting on the Tigers’ final goal in a 4-3 defeat. He was Third Star of the Game on Saturday. Wilkie finished the series having a hand in five of CC’s six goals on the weekend, scoring three goals and assisting on two, while firing eight shots on goal, hitting three posts additionally, and posting a +3 plus/minus.

Ian Mitchell, Denver
Junior Defenseman

Mitchell started his junior season strong, tallying a point in each of Denver’s first four games, helping the Pioneers to a 4-0-0 start and a No.1 national ranking. In the season opener at Alaska on Oct. 5, he doled out an assist and was +2 in a 4-3 victory. The next night, the Chicago Blackhawks draft pick broke a 0-0 deadlock late in the second period with a short-handed goal, which served as the game-winner in a 3-0 shutout, as Mitchell also helped blank the Nanooks. This past weekend, Mitchell again scored DU’s first goal in Friday’s series opener at Lake Superior State, tying the game in an eventual 3-1 victory, while putting four shots on goal. DU’s team captain capped his hot start with the primary assist on a power play goal in Saturday’s 4-3 win over the Lakers to complete the sweep. Mitchell is tied for the NCHC defensemen scoring lead with both four points and two goals, while notching two assists, firing eight shots on goal and posting a +3 plus/minus over the first four games. He also anchored a penalty kill unit that is a perfect 18-for-18 on the season so far, with at least four kills in every game.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Bobby Brink, Denver
Freshman Forward
Minnetonka, Minn.
Brink started his collegiate career with a bang, tallying four points over his first four games to lead all NCHC freshmen in scoring. The Philadelphia Flyers draft pick scored a goal in his first game as a Pioneer, helping DU defeat Alaska, 4-3, back on Oct. 5., when he was +2. This past weekend, Brink handed out two assists, including the primary helper on the game-winner, in Friday’s 3-1 win at Lake Superior State, for his first multi-point game. He capped the series at LSSU with a power play goal in Saturday’s 4-3 victory. On the season, Brink has two goals, two assists, an NCHC-best 13 shots on goal and a +4 plus/minus. He has fired at least three shots on goal in all four games this season.
GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK

Adam Scheel, North Dakota
Sophomore Goaltender
Lakewood, Ohio
Scheel was rock solid in net for North Dakota in their season-opening sweep of Canisius, allowing only one goal in the two wins. In Friday’s season opener, Scheel turned aside all 11 shots he faced for his second career shutout in a 5-0 victory. The next night, he stopped 11 more shots in an 8-1 beatdown. He finished the series with a 0.50 goals-against average, lowering his career GAA to 1.95, while totaling 22 saves for a .957 save percentage, with both the GAA and save percentage tops among NCHC goaltenders with more than one game played. The two wins gave him 15 victories in his UND career.

Forward of the Week
Liam Finlay, Sr., F, Denver – Dished out five assists in DU’s first four games of the season and was +3.
Sam Hentges, So., F, SCSU – Totaled three points in a pair of ties at Bemidji State, scoring the tying goal on Friday, with an assist each night.
Zach Jordan, Sr., F, Omaha – Tallied four points in a sweep of Alabama-Huntsville, scoring a goal Friday, while tallying two more and adding an assist in Saturday’s shutout for a three-point game.
Cole Smith, Sr., F, UND – Scored two goals in Saturday’s 8-1 win over Canisius.
Defenseman of the Week
Jacob Bernard-Docker, So., D, UND – Handed out four assists in Saturday’s 8-1 win over Canisius, including setting up the game-winner, while he was +5 in the sweep that included a shutout on Friday.
Ryan Jones, Sr., D, Omaha – Notched three points in a sweep of Alabama-Huntsville with an assist in Friday’s win, while tallying a goal and an assist in Saturday’s shutout when he was +3.
Rookie of the Week
Harrison Blaisdell, Fr., F, UND – Totaled three points in a sweep of Canisius, assisting on the game-winner Friday for his first career point, while notching his first collegiate goal and adding another assist on Saturday.
Brandon Bussi, Fr., G, WMU – Started both games at the Ice Breaker Tournament, going 1-0-1 with a .935 save percentage and a 1.92 GAA, while totaling 58 saves against Ohio State and Bowling Green.
Jack Clement, Fr., D, Miami – Dished out three assists over Miami’s first three games, including two in Saturday’s tie with New Hampshire, while blocking six shots in three games.
Austin Roden, Fr., G, Omaha – Pitched a shutout in his first collegiate start and only start of the weekend, stopping all 18 shots he faced on Saturday to blank Alabama-Huntsville.
Goaltender of the Week
