COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Juniors stole the spotlight last weekend, picking up three of four Bauer National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Player of the Week honors for week four of the season. Earning Bauer NCHC Players of the Week for Oct. 22-28, 2018 are Miami junior forward Gordie Green for Offensive Player, North Dakota junior blue liner Colton Poolman for Defenseman, St. Cloud State freshman forward Sam Hentges for Rookie and Miami junior netminder Ryan Larkin for Goaltender of the Week.

This is Green’s second career NCHC Offensive Player of the Week nod and first this season, while Larkin garnered his second Goaltender of the Week award this season and third of his career (also a one-time Rookie of the Week). This is the first NCHC weekly award for both Poolman and Hentges.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Gordie Green, Miami
Junior Forward
Ann Arbor, Mich.

Green had a breakout series against Colgate with six points, leading the RedHawks to a sweep of the Raiders. The junior opened the scoring in Friday’s 4-1 win by working around a defender in the slot and burying a shot for his second goal of the year. He also posted an assist on a power play goal that made it 3-1 MU late in the second period, as he earned First Star of the Game. Green then closed the series out on Saturday by contributing to Miami's first four goals in a 6-0 blanking, chipping in primary helpers on the first two tallies, including the game-winner, a secondary assist on Scott Corbett's first career goal and finally getting in on the action himself with a finish on a nifty feed with 4.9 seconds left in the second period. Green was again named the game’s First Star for his four-point outing, when he was also +3. He finished the series with two goals, four assists, five shots on goal and a +4 plus/minus.

Defenseman of the Week

Colton Poolman, North Dakota
Junior Defenseman
East Grand Forks, Minn.

Poolman powered North Dakota to its second straight win, scoring two goals to lead UND to a 3-1 win over rival Minnesota Saturday in Las Vegas in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. The team captain tallied his first goal in the second period with a blast from above the circle that tied the game at 1-1. He then scored the game-winning goal with a power-play tally midway through the third period with another blast from the point. The goals were his first of the season and gave him the first multi-goal game of his career. Poolman also finished +2 with three shots on goal and one blocked shot to earn First Star of the Game in UND’s only game of the weekend. In addition, he helped limit the Gophers to 21 shots on goal with their lone goal coming on a 5-on-3 power play.

Rookie of the Week

Sam Hentges, St. Cloud State
Freshman Forward
New Brighton, Minn.

Hentges had the best weekend of his young career, recording his first hat trick in only his fifth game to help St. Cloud State down Boston College, 7-0, on Thursday. The Minnesota Wild draft pick opened the game’s scoring 6:10 into the contest, which turned out to be the game-winner, and added his second tally midway through the second period to make it 4-0. Hentges then capped his hat trick 4:44 into the third period to make it a 6-0 contest. He scored on all three of his shots on goal and was +3 in the win to earn First Star of the Game honors. In the back half of SCSU’s Boston swing, Hentges put a shot on goal and was +1 in a 3-2 loss at Northeastern Saturday – the Huskies’ first loss of the season. He finished the weekend with three goals, four shots on goal and a +4 plus/minus, after entering with one goal all season.
