North Dakota’s Caggiula, Poolman and Johnson honored along with CC’s Trey Bradley for week eight

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -  After National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) teams went 7-3-0 in non-conference play last weekend, several individuals had strong showings but three Bauer NCHC Players of the Week for week eight come from North Dakota after its sweep while the fourth winner comes from Colorado College after the Tigers earned their first win of the season. The Bauer NCHC Players of the Week for the week of Nov. 23-29 are North Dakota senior forward Drake Caggiula for Offensive Player of the Week, UND sophomore blue liner Tucker Poolman for Defenseman of the Week, Colorado College freshman forward Trey Bradley for Rookie of the Week and UND sophomore netminder Cam Johnson for Goaltender of the Week.

This is Caggiula’s second career NCHC weekly honor, claiming Offensive Player of the Week once as a junior last year, as well. Poolman earned his first NCHC Defenseman of the Week award this week but was an NCHC Rookie of the Week last season, while Johnson has now claimed NCHC Goaltender of the Week twice this season (week one). This is Bradley’s first NCHC weekly honor.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Drake Caggiula, North Dakota

Senior Forward
Whitby, Ont.

Caggiula had a monster weekend to lead No. 5 North Dakota to a sweep at Michigan State, racking up five points in the series with two goals in each win, including the game-winning goal in both contests. On Friday, Caggiula scored UND’s final two goals in a 3-1 win with his first goal of the night turning out to be the game-winner. He was named the game’s first star after firing seven shots on goal and posting a plus-2 rating. In the series finale on Sunday, Caggiula was even better with a three-point game as he had a hand in each of UND’s final three goals after the Fighting Hawks fell behind and then tied the game in the first period. He scored the game-winner again late in the first period while assisting on a power play goal and scoring a short-handed goal in the second stanza to seal the victory. Caggiula was once again named the No. 1 star of the game, putting four more shots on goal and again posting a plus-2 rating. He finished the weekend with four goals, an assist, a plus-4 rating and 11 shots on goal as he now ranks second nationally with 11 goals this season and tied for fourth in the NCAA with 21 points.

DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
Tucker Poolman, North Dakota

Sophomore Defenseman
East Grand Forks, Minn.

Poolman was productive at both ends of the ice for the Fighting Hawks, leading North Dakota to a road sweep of Michigan State. The Winnipeg Jets prospect compiled three points in the two games while also helping anchor a UND penalty kill that finished the weekend 8-for-9. In Friday’s 3-1 victory, Poolman scored his first goal of the season just 1:35 into the game to put the Fighting Hawks up for good. He also blocked two shots in the win and was plus-1 while UND’s penalty kill was a perfect 3-for-3. Two days later in the series finale, Poolman handed out assists on each of North Dakota’s first two goals of the game, both in the first period, with his second helper setting up the game-winning goal. He was named the game’s third star Sunday and posted a plus-2 rating while helping UND’s penalty kill go 5-for-6. The Fighting Hawks defense surrendered just one goal in each game to MSU while Poolman finished the weekend with a plus-3 rating, two blocked shots and five shots on goal to go with his three points.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Trey Bradley, Colorado College

Freshman Forward
Tampa, Fla.

Bradley continued his strong start to his rookie campaign with a pair of points in a series split with crosstown rival Air Force. On Friday, Bradley scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season unassisted on the power play early in the third period to tie the game at 3-3 in an eventual 4-3 loss. He also fired four shots on goal in the defeat. The next night Bradley helped the Tigers earn their first win of the season as he handed out an assist on a power play goal midway through the second period that tied the game at 2-2, before CC scored twice in the third period to take the 4-3 victory. Bradley finished the weekend with a goal and an assist, as well as four shots on goal, while helping the Tigers’ power play go 3-for-5 in the series as he had a hand in two of the three power play markers.

GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Cam Johnson, North Dakota

Sophomore Goaltender
Troy, Mich.

Making his first starts in over a month following an injury, Johnson backstopped the Fighting Hawks to a sweep at Michigan State over the weekend. He allowed only one goal in each game for a 1.00 goals-against average in the series while posting a .966 save percentage in the two wins. In Friday’s 3-1 victory, he turned aside 24 shots with MSU’s lone goal coming 4-on-4, while he helped kill all three Spartan power plays, making two saves on those man advantage situations. In the series finale on Sunday, Johnson compiled a career-high 33 saves in a 4-1 victory while helping kill 5-of-6 MSU power plays with MSU’s lone goal coming on the man advantage in the first period. On the weekend, Johnson stopped 57 of 59 shots faced and helped the Fighting Hawks go 8-for-9 on the penalty kill against the Spartans while improving to 3-0-1 in net this season.

Offensive Player of the Week
Jake Guentzel, Jr., F, Omaha – Tallied a career-high five points to tie the school record on two goals and three assists in a 6-4 win over Ohio State on Saturday with the three helpers matching a career high, while he posted a plus-4 rating in the series sweep.

David Morley, Sr., F, SCSU – Compiled five points in a sweep at Minnesota with a goal in each game while assisting on three other tallies, including Friday’s game-winner, as he posted a plus-2 rating in the series.

Sam Rothstein, Jr., F, CC – Scored two goals in CC’s 4-3 win over Air Force on Saturday, including one on the power play that tied the game for his first career multi-goal game, while putting four shots on goal in the series split.

Defenseman of the Week
Ethan Prow, Sr., D, SCSU – Dished out three assists, all on the power play, including on the game-winner, all in the second period of Sunday’s 7-4 win at Minnesota, while he blocked six shots and posted a plus-1 rating in the series.

Rookie of the Week
Brock Boeser, Fr., F, UND – Compiled two points in a sweep at MSU, assisting on the game-winning goal Friday while scoring on the power play Saturday and posting a plus-1 rating in the series with six shots on goal.

Evan Weninger, Fr., G, Omaha – Backstopped UNO to a sweep of Ohio State, compiling a 2.50 GAA and a .938 save percentage as he stopped 76 shots in the series, including 42 saves in Saturday’s 6-4 win, while allowing only one power play goal in Friday’s 3-1 victory.
