On day three of the 2023 NCHC Play of the Year Tournament our next pair of first-round match-ups are available for fan voting. One match-up pits two goals against each other, while the other is a goal against a save.
In the first match-up on Friday, St. Cloud State's Adam Ingram goes between his legs and back-hands a goal top-shelf against Bemidji State in Week 5, while North Dakota's Jake Schmaltz passes between his legs to Ethan Frisch for a power play goal at the Frozen Faceoff.
In the other first-round match-up Friday, Minnesota Duluth's Carter Loney steals the puck and uses a spin move to pass to Ben Steeves for a goal against Arizona State in Week 1, while Omaha's Jake Kucharski robs Denver of a goal with a diving save in Week 9.
Winning our two match-ups from Thursday were Colorado College's Hunter McKown and Denver's Carter Mazur. McKown won with 58 percent of the vote to advance his second goal in the tournament, while Mazur edged SCSU's Zach Okabe and Grant Cruikshank with 52 percent of the vote. McKown and Mazur meet in a quarterfinal on April 3.
