2026 NCHC Play of the Year Tournament: First Round - Day 4

Match-ups for April 18 feature goals from ASU's Powell, NoDak's Wiebe and saves from WMU's Slukynsky, UMD's Gajan

On the fourth day of the 2026 NCHC Play of the Year Tournament, the first round wraps up with the final two goals and last two saves in the field.

Our goal match-up Saturday features Arizona State's Noah Powell using a nifty move to get around the Denver defense and score in the final week of the regular season (Week 20), going against North Dakota defenseman Abram Wiebe, who steals the puck and scores with a strong move in overtime to beat Miami in Week 18.

In the final save match-up of the first round, Western Michigan sophomore Hampton Slukynsky makes a sprawling toe save on a rebound in the NCAA Regional Semifinals against Minnesota State, while Minnesota Duluth sophomore Adam Gajan dives across the crease and keeps his stick flat to keep the puck out of the net in Week 16 against Denver.

Winning our first round match-ups from Friday were Denver freshman forward Brendan McMorrow and Colorado College senior Kaidan Mbereko. McMorrow advanced past ASU's Bennett Schimek with 73 percent of the vote, while Mbereko defeated DU's Quentin Miller with 65 percent of the vote. McMorrow faces the winner of today's goal match-up in the quarterfinals on April 20, while Mbereko moves on and will square off against today's save match-up winner on April 21.

Videos for both of today's match-ups are below with the poll to vote below each video. Voting will remain open until Monday at 2 p.m. ET, when the first two quarterfinal match-ups are posted and today's winners are announced. The entire bracket (with schedule) can be seen at the bottom of the page.
