131 NCHC Student-Athletes Named to 2024-25 Academic All-Conference Team

Among the 131, record 91 also earn NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete recognition

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In addition to succeeding on the ice and in the weightroom, National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) players are also having success in the classroom, as 131 student-athletes have been named to the 2024-2025 NCHC Academic All-Conference Team on Thursday. Among the 131 honorees are 91 players who also earned NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete recognition.

To be eligible for the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must compile a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average or better, while having completed at least one full academic year at his current institution, or have transferred intra-conference and previously been on the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team. Student-athletes that have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better are honored as NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes, in addition to Academic All-Conference.

Among the 131 Academic All-Conference honorees, all nine NCHC schools placed at least 12 student-athletes on the team, led by four programs with 16 honorees each: Arizona State, Colorado College, Miami and St. Cloud State. Denver is one behind with 15 Academic All-Conference recipients, while Omaha has 14.

Colorado College once again leads NCHC teams with 15 Distinguished Scholar-Athletes this year, while Denver is home to 13 Distinguished Scholar-Athletes and Arizona State 12. Western Michigan boasts 11 Distinguished Scholar-Athletes, while Miami and St. Cloud State have nine (9) each. All nine NCHC teams have at least six (6) Distinguished Scholar-Athletes this year, with the 91 overall NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes the most in conference history (previous high was 73).

Eight (8) student-athletes earned NCHC Academic All-Conference honors for the fifth time in their career this year: Colorado College’s Tyler Coffey, Denver’s Connor Caponi and Carter King, Miami’s Hampus Rydqvist, Omaha’s Brock Bremer, Jimmy Glynn and Nolan Krenzen, and Western Michigan’s Robby Drazner, who also played at Miami. King, Bremer, Glynn and Krenzen are also now five-time NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes.

Fifteen (15) members of the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team have already graduated with a bachelor’s degree and are currently in graduate school, with 11 of them also being tabbed Distinguished Scholar-Athletes.

Of the 91 student-athletes earning NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete honors, 59 of them posted a cumulative GPA north of 3.7, including 22 with an impressive 3.9 GPA or better. Five (5) undergraduate student-athletes and a trio of graduate students carry a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA. Those undergraduate Distinguished Scholar-Athletes with a perfect GPA through the first semester of the 2024-25 academic year include Denver sophomore Boston Buckberger, Arizona State junior Gibson Homer, ASU sophomore David Hymovitch, North Dakota fifth-year senior Louis Jamernik V, and St. Cloud State junior Mason Reiners. The three graduate students with a perfect 4.0 GPA are Omaha’s Jimmy Glynn and Western Michigan’s Cam Knuble and Cameron Rowe.

While freshmen and inter-conference first-year transfers, including graduate transfers, are not currently eligible for the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team or Distinguished Scholar-Athlete recognition (due to not having a full year at their current school), those freshmen and transfers that achieve a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better at the conclusion of the 2024-25 academic year will be added to the Academic All-Conference Team over the summer. Similarly, any freshmen or first-year transfers who compile a 3.5 GPA or better will be named an NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.

The 2024-25 NCHC Senior Scholar-Athlete Award, chosen from senior Distinguished Scholar-Athletes, will be announced at the annual NCHC Awards Celebration, which will once again be held at the St. Paul Event Center on Thursday, March 20 in Saint Paul, Minn. NCHC All-Conference and All-Rookie Teams, along with NCHC individual award finalists, will be announced the week prior from March 11-13.
