COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Three goaltenders in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) have been selected semifinalists for the 2025 Mike Richter Award, as the Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA)
announced the 10 netminders up for the honor on Thursday. The Mike Richter Award has been presented annually to the most outstanding goaltender in men’s NCAA Division I hockey since 2014.
The trio of NCHC netminders on the semifinal list are Denver senior
Matt Davis, Omaha junior
Simon Latkoczy and Western Michigan graduate student
Cameron Rowe. The NCHC leads all conferences with three of the 10 semifinalists, while the CCHA and Hockey East each have a pair and Atlantic Hockey America, the Big Ten and the ECAC have one each. The three semifinalists are also the most in NCHC history.
Davis has posted a 19-6-1 record in net for the Pioneers in 26 starts, while logging a .918 save percentage and 2.20 goals-against average, both of which rank in the top 20 nationally and top five in the NCHC. The 19 wins lead the NCHC and tie for second in the NCAA, while his 626 total saves are second in the NCHC and 17th in the NCAA. The Calgary, Alberta native has twice been named NCHC Goaltender of the Week this season and has one shutout (at Yale on Nov. 1).
Latkoczy has started 24 games in goal for Omaha this year with a 13-10-1 record. The junior ranks fifth nationally and first in the NCHC with 765 saves this season (31.9 saves/game), compiling a .932 save percentage, which is third in the NCHC and eighth in the NCAA. Latkoczy also carries a 2.42 GAA with one whitewash. The Trencin, Slovakia native has been named NCHC Goalie of the Week a conference-leading four times this season, including three times in the last five weeks. Latkoczy was also the NCHC January Goaltender of the Month and was selected Most Outstanding Player of the Ice Breaker Tournament back in October.
Rowe boasts a 14-1-0 record in 15 starts this year to go along with a 1.73 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage, the latter two of which both rank sixth nationally. Rowe is second in the NCHC in both GAA and save percentage. The Wilmette, Ill. native leads the nation in win percentage (.933) this season and is also the NCAA’s active career wins leader with 68 victories. Rowe is a three-time NCHC Goaltender of the Week in 2024-25 and has one shutout so far on the year, which he recorded last Friday vs. St. Cloud State.
The 10 Richter Award semifinalists were chosen by a panel of voters from across the hockey community. The panel includes coaches from each conference, as well as members of the national media, professional scouts and representatives of USA Hockey. The panel voted from a ballot of 36 goaltenders with qualifying thresholds, which included six NCHC netminders.
Among the 10 semifinalists, five of the goalies come from the United States, three from Canada and one each from Slovakia (Latkoczy) and Sweden. One is a graduate student (Rowe), two are seniors, two are juniors, and five are sophomores.
Three finalists for the 2025 Richter Award will be announced in early March and the winner of this year’s Mike Richter Award will be revealed on Friday, April 11 during the Men’s NCAA Frozen Four in St. Louis.
The NCHC is home to two previous Mike Richter Award winners. Former North Dakota goalie Zane McIntyre was the first from the NCHC to win it in 2015, while Denver’s Tanner Jaillet gloved the Richter Award in 2017.
